Online Premiere of Peter Drew's Symphony No. 1, “Reminiscence”
On July 25, 2025, the Boulder Symphony will present the online premiere of Peter Drew’s Symphony No. 1, “Reminiscence”, after its successful live debut in March 2025. This performance, produced in a live concert by Parma Recordings, brings Drew’s symphonic masterpiece to a global audience.
A Journey Through Sound
Reminiscence is a deeply personal symphony that weaves together the musical influences of Aaron Copland, Modest Mussorgsky, George Gershwin, and J.S. Bach. The work captures the essence of Drew’s life, using sound to evoke emotional depth, sweeping textures, and vibrant cinematic imagery.
From the rhythmic folk-inspired “Journey” to the jazz-infused “Pictures in an Album”, and the tempestuous “Bach to Bach”, the symphony blends a variety of genres, reflecting Drew’s musical and life journey. The final movement, “The Return”, closes with a warm reflection on an original folk tune that captures the American promise.
Movement Highlights
Journey: Rhythmic folk vibes influenced by Villa-Lobos and Ravel.
Pictures in an Album: A blend of Mussorgsky, Jazz, Blues, and Americana.
Bach to Bach: A dramatic reimagining of a Bach fugue with meditative undertones.
The Return: A heartfelt folk theme reflecting the American spirit.
